Telemedicine Benefits

Telemedicine is still a new concept in Bangladesh. Telemedicine services refer to providing medical services through mobile phone or video conferencing. Telemedicine provides medical care in a specific process.

To provide this service, the hospital has been given a mobile phone which is open 24 hours and a specialist doctor is engaged all the time under the supervision of this mobile phone. People in the area can seek emergency medical care or advice from a doctor at any time of the day or night. Apart from this, there is a system of providing medical services through video conferencing.

The essence of telemedicine is to deliver health services to the people using information technology. This service is gradually being introduced in upazila or district-level public and private hospitals. (The country's first telemedicine service centre was launched at Jessore's Union Information Service Center (UIC).

As a result, people from remote areas can pay a fee of Tk 100 to the specialist of Ayesha Memorial Specialized (Pvt.) Hospital in the capital. Get an opportunity to talk to the doctors through Skype and get a consultation. This program is gradually being expanded to other districts following Jessore's model.

Telemedicine services are also being provided in 22 union information and service centers of the country using Skype video conferencing. The doctors sitting in the MIS department of the health department are providing this service free of cost every working day. The government has planned to increase this number many times soon.

Thousands of mini laptop computers with web cameras have already been provided to community clinics and the process is ongoing. The work of delivering laptops to all community clinics including all union health centers of the country is continuing.

These mini laptops have wireless internet connectivity. Laptops are being used to provide telemedicine services. Patients who need to consult a doctor can consult the doctor of the upazila hospital by starting the video conference. As a result, efforts are being made to fill the shortage of doctors in community clinics.

Modern technology-based telemedicine program has been launched in 59 hospitals, including specialized hospitals, district hospitals and upazila hospitals at various levels across the country with a coordination centre of the Management Information System (MIS) branch of the Department of Health.

In addition to 59 hospitals of the Department of Health, the Information and Communication Technology, Department of the People's Republic of Bangladesh has started telemedicine services based on modern technology in 25 more upazila health centers.

As a step to take a direct role in the health sector from the National ICT Infra-Network for Bangladesh Government Phase-2 (Info-Sarkar) project, telemedicine service activities are running in 25 upazila health centers in the expansion of telemedicine services managed by the Department of Health. Various types of 'tele gadgets' are being used in these service centers.

These include tele stethoscope, tele ophthalmoscope, tele spirometer, tele thermometer, tele ECG, tele BP machine, tele pulse oximeter, tele microscope, tele glucometer and tele ultrasound etc.

By using these, doctors can provide proper medical care with proper diagnosis even remotely. Through this service, patients can take various services including medicine, heart disease, skin, nose, ear and throat, and gynaecology.

The bandwidth of 3 MPBS has been provided for telemedicine services in 25 upazila health centres. Telemedicine services are being delivered to every hospital in the country.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital and 11 hospitals and institutions are providing free telemedicine treatment to patients coming from villages in 25 upazila complexes every day.

Research Ethics

There is no alternative to conducting research programs on a large scale for the development of a country. It is through research that a country and a nation can engage itself in the process of development.

However, these days research results are being used globally beyond the boundaries of our own country. In any big research project nowadays, famous researchers from different countries of the world work together in a team.

One of the reasons for this is that many countries cannot afford the huge sums of money required to run large projects. Altogether, sharing the costs of multiple projects can reduce project costs. Moreover, if researchers of different quality from different countries work together, it is much more productive. Besides, international quality laboratories are not available in all countries.

Working together allows researchers from one country to work using laboratories from another country. Such research activities are conducted for the overall development of the world. This results in combining the knowledge of researchers from one country with the knowledge of researchers from other countries.

The entire project is enriched by this exchange of knowledge. It plays a great role in global socialization.

Office

Nowadays all modern equipment and smart software are used in office management. Online-based or web-based office management has become popular for coordinating mutual activities between offices spread across the country and abroad.

As a result, the office's activities have now become internationalized across borders. Most of the modern offices have their own web pages through which the important activities of the organization are being carried out.

Many people are earning money by using alternative employment opportunities through the Internet. Many buyers these days are hiring full-time staff for outsourcing work. These workers are sitting at home and working full time like actual office hours. Special software systems ensure employee work attendance.

As a result, a US buyer can hire a Bangladeshi worker sitting there. In this case, the house is the virtual office from where all the work is being done. A buyer does not have to rent office space separately. Thus thousands of buyers worldwide are doing their work with millions of workers from different parts of the world. This bond between all is creating Vishwagram or Global Village.
